Over twenty people are currently working on the project and are taking on tasks such as armor design, title screen alterations, and redubbed voicework. Their work became an ongoing effort known as Zelda Conversion Project. That means dialog changes, new clothes, and tweaks to existing music and environment assets. A modder named Ainz noticed the pair’s work and helped the duo make tweaks to the game that would make it feel like Zelda was meant to be the star of Breath of the Wild all along. That’s when the scope of the project expanded considerably. So, they set out to create their own using an unfinished model for Zelda included in the game’s code as the basis for their creation’s basic design. The Legend of Zelda Game: The Hyrule Fantasy. That means that there wasn’t a fully-rendered model in the game’s assets that was usable as a playable character. What they discovered is that most of the Zelda assets in the game come from pre-rendered cutscenes.
The mod was started by two creators, WilianZilv and Skriller, who initially wanted to make a Zelda character model that could be used in place of Link’s existing in-game model. Fans are working on a mod that will make Zelda the playable star of Breath of the Wild.
